Auto-linking source and target files
To facilitate the rapid visual and mechanical comparison of large image repositories, GIA provides a feature that attempts to automatically determine which source and target files correspond to each other.

As a first step, auto-linking determines how many matching target file names exist for each source name.
Auto-linking may return a result such as the one shown here:

Successful one-to-one link The source file corresponds to exactly one target file.
The source item(s) are shown with a green background.
More than one possible target file Multiple target files match the source file's name. This happens when several subdirectories contain identically named images, such as 'index.gif' in separate folders for products, services, personnel, and testimonials.
The source item(s) are shown with a yellow background.
No matching target file found No target file matches the source file name or no target files have been selected.
The source item(s) are shown with a red background.

Manually refining auto-links
To solve ambiguous links (e.g. more than one target file matches source file name), click on Resolve ambiguous links. This will launch the Source/Target Linking control

1 - Source/Target candidates
The Source/Target Linking control automatically determines the best match among the available target files and displays potential matches in decreasing order of probability.

2 - Establish link button
After determining that the first choice suggested by GIA is correct or selecting the appropriate target image, click on Establish link to create a connection between the source and target files.

Manually linking source and target files
Some situations require all target files to be renamed according to a specific pattern (e.g. inserting a language-specific suffix into the file name). In these cases, auto-linking will not be able to determine source-target links based on file names.

Overriding auto-linking and creating source/target links manually
To establish these connections manually, uncheck the Enable Auto-Linking check box and click on Perform manual linking.

The Source/Target Linking control will be displayed showing all source and target files. After selecting the corresponding files from both the source and target file list boxes, click on Establish link to create a connection between the source and target files.
